Do I have to pay to enter?
Yes. At the moment there is a £10 entry fee for all players of which 100% goes into the prize pool. Prizes will be declared at the beginning of the game.
In the future we hope to make the game free to play with a prize pool generated through other means.
How do I select my Manager Name?
There is no hard and fast rule but at the moment it is encouraged that you select based on the below criteria.
Your manager name should be a player, manager or famous person that is either currently or has been at one time associated with the club you support.
You then add a nickname as their middle name too. This could either be factual or for comedy effect.
For example:
Vinnie "The Axe" Jones
or
David " Curb Crawling" Pleat
If there are only 7 fixtures in a Game Week isn't it a bit unfair?
It is a very rare occurrence that we have so few games in a single Game Week. However, for the game to work in spite of postponements we have to draw the line somewhere.
Later in the season where it is known there will be postponements for clubs still in cup competitions, managers should try and factor this into their strategy.
For ad-hoc postponements due to weather or covid, well...that's just the luck of the draw I'm afraid.
What happens if the team I select have their game postponed?
Scenario 1: If the game is postponed before the first game kicks off, you will be asked to select another team. In the event you were unable to select a new team prior to the first game kicking off, please see Scenario 2 below.
Scenario 2: If the game is postponed after the first game kicks off and/or you weren't able to change your selection, the result will be determined by The Pools Panel.
How do I play my Wild-Card and what does it do?
When you want to play your Wild-Card, you must tell me at the same time that you submit your selection for that Game Week.
For example: "Hi Robbie, I select Liverpool this week and I would like to play my Wild-Card please"
When you play your Wild-Card, it means your chosen team could draw and you wouldn't lose the 1 life you usually would. However, if you selection loses you will still lose 2 lives.
How do I play my Draw-Card and what does it do?
When you want to play your Draw-Card, you must tell me at the same time that you submit your selection for that Game Week.
For example: "Hi Robbie, I select Everton this week and I would like to play my Draw-Card please"
When you play your Draw-Card, it means you are predicting the result will be a draw. If you are correct you will gain 1 life. However, if your team wins or loses you will lose 1 life.
IMPORTANT:
Even when playing your Draw-Card and predicting a draw, you must select one team from the fixture. The team chosen will count as one of your two allowed picks for that team.
Do we need to select for mid-week fixtures too?
Yes. Mid-week fixtures will be played.
We will try to give as much notice as possible of all Game Week fixtures but there isn't much point going too far ahead due to changes because of TV scheduling or postponements.
However, those of you hoping to plan as far ahead as possible can use the fixtures on the BBC website to do so.
How do I know what teams I have left to select from?
Every manager has there own sheet/page to track their individual progress. To access it, click on your manager name listed on the "Managers" page of the website.
If you open this sheet it will tell you what teams you have selected, how many lives you have remaining, what teams you have left to select from and how many times you can select each team. It also shows you if you have your Wild-Card or Draw-Card still available to use.
Top Tip: Later in the game you might want to look at other managers pages in order to know what teams they have left.
How do I know what the deadline is?
You can find the deadline on the fixtures page. For each week it will have the date and time of the deadline listed.
It will also be posted in the WhatsApp group each week.
What is RTS?
RTS stands for Remaining Teams Score.
It is calculated by adding up the league position of all the remaining teams you have left to select from.
It can be used to get an indication of which teams other managers might have used without going to their manager page.
For example: A manager might be top of the league but comparatively to other managers, they have a very high RTS weighting. This would indicate that they have used a lot of teams higher up the premier league table than others.
Can I change my selection?
Yes, as long as your selection is with me before the deadline then you can change as much as you like!
Who is the Kaiser?
Carlos " Kaiser" Henrique Raposo is the greatest footballer never to play football.
In Fortunate Football, he is a manager that never plays. Instead he is given the first available away team each game week as per the rules. We use this account for a bit of fun, so you can see whether you would have performed better or worse had you done nothing at all.
